The first official job I had was as a library page at the Newtown Public Library. I got hired because I didn't play sports and wasn't in band, which meant I could work weekends. I was paid $4.25/hour. I worked there for 7 years, during high school, summers while in collage and the year after I graduated.

Today is blog for choice day. NARAL is asking bloggers "What is your top pro-choice hope for President Obama and/or the new Congress?" My biggest hope is that we can increase access for the women around the country who need it. There are been too many gag-rules, too many conditions and limits placed on who and where you can get information and access to abortion. Women anywhere should be able to get a prescription for Plan B / the morning after pill or RU486 / mifestone / Mifeprex if they need it.

Premarital abstinence pledges don't work according to study reported in last Monday's Washington Post: Teenagers who pledge to remain virgins until marriage are just as likely to have premarital sex as those who do not promise abstinence and are significantly less likely to use condoms and other forms of birth control when they do, according to a study released today.
