It's In the Geni

|

I am totally in love with Geni.com. I spent a vast majority of yesterday entering information into the site. Cousins, cousins' cousins, great-great aunts and other relatives all got added and updated. I went through the photos that I had scanned in while at my grandmother's years ago and uploaded a vast majority of them. I also sent out invites to a bunch of cousins.

The site really makes me happy. I love seeing the tree fill in with a complete picture of the family. Adding the images really helps as well. I wish my father could have seen the site. I'm sure he would have loved it. And the fact that anyone in the family can add to it and keep it up to date is just such a boon.

E said how he's a bit worried/suspect that I'm putting so much effort to enter data into someone else's system. Yes, he does have a point. There is no guarantee of how long Geni will be around. But I don't have a usable copy of Windoze right now (Leopard doesn't seem to want to play nice with Parallels) which means I can't get to Family Tree Maker. And it's the multiple authors thing that really is so nice. There's no way that I could keep all this updated on my own. But with everyone helping it becomes at least a bit possible. So... we'll see.
