We're Not Going to Take It

There is nothing in the world like the internet for taking you down ratholes for hours and hours. Dooce just Twittered about Dee Synder, which of course prompted me to do a quick Google search to see what she and Leta were talking about.

Oh. HE'S Dee Synder. Let me explain.

I have vivid memories of being in a Sears outside of Denver when I was in 3rd grade or so, wandering around the music section, when I saw this album cover:

This photo scared the pants off me. Seriously. I couldn't make sense of it, my brain would not parse it. But my little Mormon mind knew that it was The Bad. I felt that I wasn't suppose to look it at, but I was drawn to it. I kept walking by it, sneaking glances at it while my mother wasn't looking.

This image haunted me for years afterward. Twisted Sister was one of those "bad" bands that we weren't suppose to listen to. To this day I'm not sure I could recognize any of their songs (except for "We're Not Going to Take It"). I don't ever remember my parents forbidding us to look at or listen to them. I somehow just knew that it wasn't right.
